Walker County, GA (WDEF) – Walker County voters will decide tomorrow on the continuation of a one-percent sales tax that funds school improvements.

This E-SPLOST, in place since 1997, helps cover school facility upgrades, heating and air systems, roofing, lighting, technology improvements, and parking lot repaving.

Unlike capital funds from the state, which only cover certain expenses, local schools rely on E-SPLOST to fill the funding gap.

If approved, the tax will continue supporting these projects without raising property taxes. About 65 percent of the revenue comes from Walker County residents, while 35 percent is generated by visitors and non-residents.

Supporters say it’s critical for maintaining school infrastructure, while opponents question spending priorities.

The E-SPLOST Seven referendum is set for March 18. Polls will be open from 7am to 7pm
