CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) Black History Month is here, and the Chattanooga Black History Chorale is preparing for a special concert celebrating the history of African American music.

The performance will feature a mix of soulful gospel, powerful spirituals, and Broadway hits.

“It was actually a thought and a desire of mine to put together a choir of all African American singers performing music by black composers. When I studied under Roland Carter, I learned so much about the many black composers and how rich the tradition really is. Black music goes beyond just spirituals—you’ll also hear some great black Broadway tunes. It’s more than just spirituals; it’s a bit of everything,” said Artistic Director Neshawn Calloway.

The concert will take place at 3 p.m. at the Chattanooga State Humanities Auditorium, with free admission for all.
