Quite the week, professionally and personally. I learned Program Director Kevin West's duties include many that I did not have during the 23 years I was PD at WGOW. I learned many of those duties were much the same as when I voluntarily stepped aside as PD…..so, the stuff I disliked then …well, I still dislike. But, I am grateful to be employed, to be able to stimulate my creative juices, to be a broadcaster, and to be a happy man. I will welcome Kevin back home from his Navy duties in March.
One thing I have learned over years……99% of people who "think" they dislike me do so on the basis of politics…..as in, their politics do not mesh with mine. But once they have a conversation with me…most walk away thinking I'm actually a pretty decent guy. (Which I am)
More on the politics of politics later. After Stress Week I just wanted to sleep late (past 3:33am EST) take a couple of long walks, and generally unplug. Sure, there were many things I could have done, but opted out.
I'm not much of a movie consumer. But Jeff's review of The Impossible piqued my interest. So I went to see it.
Whew. Agree with Jeff, Best Movie I Never Wanna See Again. I live in a DVR world. If I want to record a program I do so. If is want to pause or fast forward, I do. Man, at least twice during the movie I wanted to Press Pause, Go for about a 30 minute walk to clear my head, and resume watching the movie. What an intense film. I only have 2 thumbs, but this gets 3 thumbs (so that's what I've been sitting on….) I totally was immersed. I did have the option to attend church, but, No, I opted for the 11 am Sunday morning showing. (Weird, but not bad) Wanted to see the flick, eat, then have plenty of time to watch PLAYOFFS (Yes, in the Jim Mora Sr. voice.. "PLAYOFFS? YOU KIDDIN' ME? PLAYOFFS???")
Saturday the Baltimore Ravens upset the Denver Broncos in Double OT. I am a Ravens fan. I was and am happy. I suspended reality for 4 hours to watch Playoffs. There were friends, food, football, and I did not consider the Real Worldly Junk that was outside of the NFL Playoffs.
Playoff time is here. Yes, The Great Escape from The Politics of Politics. Make Mine Moderate….with a Twist of Progressive and a Splash of Pragmatism.
